High voltage insulation powder coating is a functional coating that combines high dielectric strength, heat resistance, flame retardancy, and environmental friendliness. It is mainly used for insulation protection of various high-voltage electrical equipment, and its application industries are concentrated in power engineering, new energy, rail transit, electronic and electrical, home appliance manufacturing, and other fields. It is a key material for achieving safe and stable operation of electrical equipment. The specific application scenarios are as follows:
1、 Electric Power Engineering Industry
This is the most core application area of high-voltage insulation powder coatings, accounting for about 45%, mainly serving the core equipment of smart grids and ultra-high voltage transmission projects.
Power transmission and distribution equipment: used for transformers, reactors, GIS (gas insulated switchgear), busbars/busbars of 12-40.5kV switchgear, high and low voltage distribution cabinets and other components, which can improve dielectric strength and arc resistance, while reducing equipment phase to phase distance and cabinet volume.
Power auxiliary equipment: applied to cable accessories, insulators, combiner boxes, etc. In ultra-high voltage engineering, products with H-level (180 ℃) and above heat resistance have gradually replaced traditional impregnating paints.
2、 New energy industry
The new energy industry is a rapidly growing field in demand for high-voltage insulation powder coatings, with an average annual growth rate of over 25%. It is mainly suitable for high-voltage electrical systems in wind power, photovoltaics, energy storage, and new energy vehicles.
New energy vehicles: used to drive the "three electric" system components such as motor stator and rotor, electronic control unit (OBC car charger), battery pack housing/liquid cooling plate, busbar, etc., requiring coatings with high insulation, flame retardancy, and electrolyte corrosion resistance. On average, each new energy vehicle uses 1.2-1.8 kilograms of this coating, and the domestic demand for this field has exceeded 18000 tons by 2024.
Wind power/photovoltaics: applied to wind turbine stator and rotor, photovoltaic inverter casing, dry-type transformers, etc. The rapid growth of wind power installed capacity directly drives the demand for epoxy insulation powder coatings.
Energy storage equipment: used for energy storage containers, battery module brackets, and power electronic modules, which must meet the requirements of fire prevention and resistance to high and low temperature impacts.
3、 Rail Transit Industry
It is mainly suitable for high-voltage electrical systems of high-speed trains and subways, and has strict requirements for the fire resistance, low smoke, and non-toxic (FST) performance of coatings.
Applied to traction motors, auxiliary converters, onboard power systems, and signal control equipment, it must comply with international and national railway standards such as EN 45545 and TB/T 3139, and the product must meet UL 94 V-0 flame retardant rating and CTI value ≥ 600V.
4、 Electronic and electrical industry
High voltage insulation protection covering industrial motors and precision electronic components is an important support for the miniaturization and high power of electronic equipment.
Industrial motors: Insulation coatings for stator/rotor of small and medium-sized motors, and insulation coatings for large high-voltage motors. The promotion of high-efficiency and energy-saving motors has driven the demand for H-grade and above heat-resistant coatings. In 2024, the domestic consumption of industrial motors is about 32000 tons.
Electronic components: used for 5G base station power modules, inductor packaging, high-voltage capacitor banks, etc., requiring coatings with low leakage current and high volume resistance (≥ 10 ¹⁵ Ω. cm) characteristics.
5、 Home appliance manufacturing industry
Mainly used for high-voltage electrical components in white goods, the core requirements are environmental friendliness and long-term thermal stability.
Applied to variable frequency air conditioning compressors, motor stators, electric heating elements, etc., with the implementation of environmental regulations, this coating is accelerating the replacement of traditional solvent based insulation paints, and the usage in the home appliance industry will increase by 11.2% year-on-year in 2023.
